Update – Woodmeadow Project

25.04.2025 | Latest News

We now have two enclosures set up on grassland areas of Hell Wath. We are grateful to Ripon City Council and Plantlife for funding the materials and to the Skell Valley and FOHW volunteers who worked hard over several sessions to install the rabbit proof fencing.

Working with Plantlife, FOHW are seeking to improve the quality and biodiversity of the grassland areas and we are interested to to see what Hell Wath meadows might look like without the impact of rabbits constantly nibbling new shoots of grasses and wildflowers.

We will manage the grassland areas within the enclosures and monitor the growth of grasses and flowers, comparing it to adjacent unprotected areas. We look forward to seeing which plant species thrive without the impact of rabbit grazing and which, if any, additional species of insects and butterflies are attracted to these areas.

We hope you are as interested in watching these spaces and seeing the results as we are !
