Woodmeadow Project – Protecting some Grasslands
10.03.2025 | Latest News
As part of our partnership with Plantlife we are going to undertake a project to fence off two small areas of grassland to protect them from rabbit grazing.
No existing footpaths (permitted or casual) will be impacted by the fencing. The fencing will be part funded by Plantlife and Ripon City Council grants and the installation will be completed by Skell Valley Project and FOHW volunteers.
We want to undertake this project to see what Hell Wath meadows might look like without the impact of rabbits constantly nibbling new shoots of grasses and wildflowers. We will monitor the growth that occurs within the fenced off areas and compare it to adjacent unprotected areas. We look forward to seeing which plant species thrive without the impact of rabbit grazing and which, if any, additional species of insects and butterflies are attracted to these areas.
We hope you are as interested in watching these spaces and seeing the results as we are !
